CORE Skills Program
This program provides training and on-the-job work experience in the health care industry for immigrants and refugees. The program is delivered in partnership with NorQuest College over a 9 month period. In this time, students are provided with academic and personal support to ensure individual success. Student also receive training so they are well-equipped for the Canadian workforce. Upon completion, students receive the Health Care Aide (HCA) Certificate from NorQuest College.
Am I eligible?
Applicants to this program must be unemployed or underemployed (working less than 19 hours a week), have strong English language skills (applicants may be tested for skill level), have a good understanding of working with the elderly and people with disabilities, and be eligible for Student Financial Assistance.

How much will it cost me?
Students of this program need to qualify for Student Finance grant funding. Student Finance may provide full or partial tuition, books, and living allowances to those who qualify. Please contact the program for current fees.
How do I access this program?
- Contact the program to obtain and fill out an application form.
- Applicant is placed on a waiting list once the application is received.
- Each spring, program staff contact applicants for interviews.
- There will be 3 interviews (2 personal and one group interview), a Student Finance assessment, and an English language assessment.
