Host Program
This program matches volunteers with newly arrived immigrants or refugees in order to link the newcomers to the community and help them feel they belong here.
Am I eligible?
Persons wishing to volunteer do not have to speak a second language.
Immigrant and refugees wishing to be paired with a volunteer must be a permanent resident in Canada. Canadian citizens are not eligible.

How much will it cost me?
There are no fees for this program.
How do I access this program?
For volunteers:
- Call (780) 424-3545 and speak to the Program Coordinator.
- The Program Coordinator will interview the applicant to determine suitability.
- Complete the screening documentation, which includes a Police Information Check, Child Welfare Information System check, and provide three references.
- When all requirements are met, the volunteer will then be placed with a newcomer.
For newcomers:
- Call (780) 424-3545 and speak to the Program Coordinator, or inquire about the program through your Settlement Counsellor.
- Meet with program staff to learn more about the program.
- You will be added to a waiting list and contacted when a suitable volunteer is found.

Program Outcomes
- Newcomers to Canada learn about Canadian norms and customs, as well as improve their English skills.
- Newcomers will learn about community resources and how to access services.
- Volunteers gain an appreciation for other customs and other cultures.
