Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada (LINC) Assessment Program

This program provides English language level and/or first-language literacy assessment as needed, using the Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB) tools, and referral to LINC language classes and/or other appropriate programs in the community.

Am I eligible?
If you are a permanent resident of Canada or a convention refugee and need basic English, you may be eligible for LINC.

LINC language assessment for people living outside of Edmonton is offered through Norquest College.

How much will it cost me?
LINC assessments and classes are free, however, only one LINC assessment can be provided at no cost. This program is funded by Citizenship and Immigration Canada.

How do I access this program?
  1. Call the LINC Intake Worker at (780) 424-3545.
  2. Book an appointment for a LINC English test.
  3. For your appointment, bring your Permanent Resident Card, landing papers (original only), or letter of confirmation of convention refugee determination with you.

Program Outcomes
To study at a LINC school everyone must complete a LINC assessment. Clients will leave this program with the results of the assessment and a referrral to a LINC school of their choice.
