Two contract full-time positions for 38 hours per week are availabe for the New Welcome Centre for Immigrants.
As a Child and Youth Settlement Counsellor, you work closely with new immigrants and refugee children and youth, supporting a smooth transition into life in Canada. You evaluate client needs and develop service plans using a case management model. Throughout your career, you have developed strong interviewing, assessment and writing skills, along with expert knowledge of community resources. As a strong collaborator, you develop partnerships with schools, other service providers, clients, and cultural communities, to build on the strengths of newly arrived families. You are an insightful teacher of basic life skills and have honed your coaching and counselling skills to maximize success for the clients you support.
A related Degree/Diploma in a Human Services discipline and 2 years of experience working with children and youth newcomers to Canada has prepared you for this challenging position. You are familiar with the education system, child and youth programs, community resources, and the challenges newcomer youth face. You are proficient with computer software and have the ability to learn new programs. Fluency in Chinese, Mandarin, Arabic, or East European Languages is preferred. A vehicle and valid Driver's Licence is required for these rewarding opportunities.
