This is a full-time position for 37.5 hours per week.
 
As a Child and Youth Settlement Counsellor, you work closely with immigrants/refugee children and youth, supporting a smooth transition to life in Canada. Responsible for evaluating client’s needs, developing service plans and making appropriate referrals, you have strong interviewing, writing and assessment skills, along with expert knowledge of community resources. As a strong collaborator, you will develop partnerships with other service providers, clients and cultural communities to build on the strengths of newly arrived families. Insightful teacher of basic life skills, you have honed your coaching and counseling skills to maximize settlement success for the clients you support.

Your related degree/diploma in a Human Services discipline and at least two years of experience working with newcomer children, youth and families has prepared you for this position. You are familiar with settlement and educational challenges that newcomers face.  Proficiency with computer software and the willingness to learn new skills are essential to your success, and a background in teaching will be an asset for this position. Proficiency in English (written and spoken) is a must, and fluency in Arabic is preferred. A vehicle and a valid driver’s licence are required.
